  • A really great air purifier that has many key improvements/advantages over its competitors

Shawn R.· Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2026

Set name: Mighty White I got this air purifier for a relative that has COPD. They already had an Alen T100 that they were pleased with. But, as is common in multiple industries where a core product requires a consumable, it's often not the condition of the core product but the availability of the required consumable that dictates when a product has to be replaced. While I've been able to find enough replacement air filters for that one air purifier, when the need arose for a 2nd air purifier for a second section of the house, instead of just getting a newer Alen, I opted to start the research process all over again and, this time, the clear winner was Coway And, as well as the Alen has done over the years, it didn't take long to see how much better the Coway model was by comparison. A first major difference is in the design and aesthetics. With several color variants and another model with a more classic look, it doesn't visually stand out as much as a typical tower air purifier does. It's more stylish and "elegant". Second, there are actual very practical functional reasons for those aesthetics. Instead of blowing air on people horizontally, it blows the air straight up so that nobody feels the air blowing. It's also significantly quieter so even set on medium speed it's quieter than the Alen at low speed. That's impressive given that this model is designed to handle a space 3X as much as the Alen was. But, it's due to the design of having the air come in from the sides and then exit out the top. It just provides a much more natural method of air circulation. And, also means it can be tucked along a wall and out of the way ... with the cord blocked from view if located directly at the power outlet. Another great feature that the Coway has that I haven't seen before is that you have 4 stage filtration .... with the initial pre-screen stage being a built-in filter that can be washed ... followed by the 1st charcoal filter to catch large objects like hair .... followed by a 2nd filter that have 4 replacement options and therefore can be customized based on what types of odors or particles a person needs filtered out ... and finally the HEPA filter that catches the smallest particles that make it past the other three. Not only is this like a coin-sorter process of filtering out different things at different people ... but this is why, unlike a lot of air purifiers, the main filters can last 1 year instead of just 6 months. The built-in filter is recommended to be cleaned once a month. The charcoal filter 6 months. The "environmental/smell" filter being replaced once a year. And, the HEPA filter being able to last even longer depending on environment. Where it actually gets better at filtering over time ... but then the tradeoff is air flow reduction. That's why the official recommendation is still once a year. And, best of all, the NYT wirecutter review I'd found says Coway has made continual improvements over the years to this product, which really shows. Many manufacturer's just seem intent on constantly reinventing the wheel and it seems Coway was instead focusing on perfecting what it already had. Very pleased with the results and the good deal we'd gotten on it. While we hope the Alen continues to do well for several more years, at least it's nice knowing that we already know what to replace it with whenever it become necessary. • EXCELLENT for drowning out outside noise! Lasted 4 years.

Amazon customer· Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2026

Set name: Mighty White I’ll touch on the purification, but the reason I have this, and why it was suggested to me - is for a sleeping aid! That is ALL I use it for and it is EXCELLENT for such. I was miserable and tried earplugs and white noise through my speaker. My brain knew that was artificial. This thing did the trick! My savior! It has 3 speed levels. Which, I’m guessing the lowest levels is what they’re saying is more quiet than an air conditioner. Level 3 is absolutely NOT more quiet than an AC. This isn’t about it justing be loud enough to drown out noise. I’m pretty sure it’s about FREQUENCY. Imagine the sound of an air conditioner, but a little louder and giving you a slight breeze to make your room just a SMIDGE cooler. If there are cars, birds, noisy AC condenser units outside, or people talking outside, turn this thing immediately makes them DISAPPEAR like magic. I think it’s got to do with the airwave frequencies. It brings your mental attention to your room because the purifier sound is in your room. So it keeps you in the present and kind of acts as a sensory deprivation when it comes to audio. It also makes light rain sounds disappear AND thunder!!! While not being disturbing. It’s soothing to me. I had this thing for 4 years until the fan gave out. Using it almost every night. Level 2 will only drown out the most subtle nuances like light wind and things in the distance. Sometimes I use it if it’s a quiet night. But level 3 is what I usually use to really help me knock out. If it’s off or level 2 and I wake up to some noise outside or wind chimes, I just get up and punch the 3 and boom it’s all gone and I’m back to bed. 😴 As for purifying the air, it’s always showing a blue light to indicate clean air. But it’s still good to use because the sensor doesn’t detect EVERYthing. For me the air purification is just a bonus. I probably wait too long to change the filters but they’re easy to do! And dust doesn’t go flying everywhere when I change it. That I can see.. But remember all you gotta do is turn it back on when the filter is changed in order for it to clean that invisible dusty air back up. I assume. Very RARELY does the light change to indicate air impurity. Maybe sometimes purple if it’s SUPER windy or there was a fire somewhere outside that you can smell. One time I was applying a diatomaceous earth powder to my room for bugs, and the light went REDD and I left it runnning for a whole day and I think it reallly helped. Probably wasn’t good at all for the machine but it kept going! I have never tried out the ion setting because the description I have read scares me. Ion wanna try it.. A few days ago, after 4 years, the fan just stopped going. And it made some noise. For the week leading up to it, sometimes the fan would slow down for 5 seconds and then go back. It sounded more like a power issue with maybe my apartment. But then when the fan stopped, I think that was my answer. Not sure how long it’s shooosed to last. I’m sure it varies. But I would say it’s worth it for 4 years. I don’t need any pictures. What you see in the other pictures is accurate. It’s the height of the length of a coat hanger! It’s less than a coat hanger wide by a good bit, and it’s half the length of a coat hanger deep when you measure behind it. Maybe that’ll give you an idea of the size. Not bad. It’s at the foot of my bed. Cleaning it was super simple. I’m ordering another one and it’s giving me same-day shipping. Idk. It’s cool. Read more 115 people found this

  • Beyond Expectations

Set name: Mighty2 White After being very impressed by the 400 in the main, open living/cooking/eating areas of the house, added a Mighty2 to the bedroom. Just as impressed by the Mighty2's performance. Noise level is low on settings 1 and 2; reasonable on setting 3/3 and the noise level on "Turbo" mode is not bad. It's a consistent white noise of air being moved and not a mechanical, rattling, whining noise. Wife loves some white noise to go to sleep to...I'm not big on it but much prefer the Mighty2's Turbo noise to a box fan on low or medium settings. Performance is fantastic. Noticeably fresher air and has worked wonders keeping dust/dander/dog hair from settling on surfaces in between dusting and vacuuming sessions. We keep a clean house, but two dogs will always leave a bit of "funk" in their trail...the Mighty2 and 400 make light work of cycling that funk through the carbon filter and replacing it with fresh, neutral smelling goodness. Was skeptical of air purifiers in general...glad my wife talked me into giving them a try. Extremely effective at what they do, no snake oil in Coway's offerings so far.

Set name: Mighty Black I think so highly of this that I have purchased multiple. It works great in our large bedrooms to manage dog hair and dander (we have a large German Shepherd, so it manages A LOT of hair). I also have one in my daughter's room where she keeps a herd of 3 guinea pigs. Before this was in her room, it always felt dusty and smelled like hay. Now the dust is much improved, and the hay smell is totally gone. We do use it with pet filters and keep it running on low all the time. At low speed, you almost can't hear it. At the higher speeds, it sounds just like white noise, so it is still just fine to run at high over night. The first layer filter is easy to clean, and all layers of the filter are easy to change. The first layer we clean about weekly, but it tells you when it needs to be cleaned (for us, this is where most of the dog hair catches). The disposable filters only need to be replaced every few months, and they are easy to change. This has made a huge difference for me in the air quality and breathability of the room air in our bedrooms. 20 people found this

  • Great for Purifying While Cooking

Stephanie· Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2026

Set name: Mighty White This is my first and only air purifier and it more or less does the job I was expecting it. I like the different options in strength of purification it has as well as the ion enablement capability. This works in any room size, however it is a bit bulky to transfer room to room, especially if you’re petite like me. I also really enjoy the timer setting it has, so I don’t have to manually turn off the purification. Lastly, there’s an option to turn off the indicator light if you have it running at night. I found the best use case for the purifier is when you’re cooking a lot of grease in the kitchen (in my experience). When I tested it out while cooking some steaks, the air quality was immediately detected and it started purifying it. I initially got this purifier to lessen my indoor allergies and to be honest I don’t think it’s made an impact, but I still think it’s a good product to have around. 7 people found this

  • Amazingly quiet and scrubs the air clean.

Set name: Mighty2 White I am very happy with this air purifier. Since I keep it in my bedroom, quiet oparation is a must. It didn't disappoint in this regard. It is so quiet I sometimes have to check to see if is on. Other purifiers are quiet when you first get them. But they almost always have a cheaper sleeve bearing fan motor that inevitably begins to rattle an buzz after you have had it for a while. This product claims to have a better motor so time will tell. Also, it really cleans up the room air compared to my last air filter. I hardly ever have to dust anymore. It has a lot of extra features, modes and displays. I just set the fan to speed 1 and let it run 24/7. You can't go wrong with this product. One person found this

Set name: Mighty Black It works amazing, purchased to help with capturing vape/THC smoke (specifically concentrates) in my gaming room, clears up any type of smoke pretty great and I puff like a dragon lol. The purifier is very light compared to other purifiers I’ve had and blows very strong, filters seem okay not super snug but just enough. My only downside about this product is that it leaves this weird chemical or factory smell while in use which is why I’m giving it a 3 star, I’m hoping it will clear up with in the return period as it really bothers me, but is a good purifier. luckily I don’t sleep in my gaming room so get to have a break from the smell, maybe my nose is just that sensitive but I will update soon to

  • Astoundingly effective, whisper quiet, highly recommend.

The Cre8ive One· Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2023

Set name: Mighty Black I bought a $90 tower purifier which took a long time to clear the air and which was noisier than a jet engine. I lived with it, but when the Canadian wildfire smoke descended upon us in NYC, I loaned it to my downstairs neighbor, who had elderly and special needs family members, and I ordered this as a replacement. It's more than double the cost of the other unit, but based on the reviews from the New York Times and other review sites, the quality and performance are well worth the investment. So I splurged and got this unit. While I was waiting for it to arrive, the air pollution got really bad and I had been coughing, eyes were watering and I was forced to wear an N-95 mask at home just to breathe. When the purifier finally arrived, I turned it on and the sensor light went red to indicate the high level of contamination in the air. I opened the doors of every room of my apartment to let it go to work and after a few minutes at full power, the light turned from red to purple, and about 5 minutes later, it went blue. I took my mask off and the air was pure and fresh. It is an absolute superhero at cleaning a large volume of air very quickly. I was thoroughly impressed. The sensor is very sensitive and will turn purple if you are just cooking something that releases strong scents into the air (sauteeing onions and peppers, etc.) and it goes red if you're burning anything. Another upside is that my kitchen smoke detector has stopped going off if I'm grilling something, because the purifier keeps the air quality under control. At the highest setting, it's about as loud as my old purifier at the middle setting, which is to be expected, as you would only set it that high to quickly clear out a room or if there's smoke from cooking, etc. But the massive volume of clean air it blows out in exchange for that short term annoyance is staggering. However, at the 2nd highest setting it is barely detectable, producing a pleasant, white noise background sound that you quickly tune out. It makes falling asleep very easy, and if you have the air conditioner on you can't hear the purifier at all. At it's lowest setting, it blows out a nice stream of air but is utterly and completely silent. You couldn't even hear it at night time in a small, quiet room with the door shut. Amazing. They say you never regret buying the best. They know what they're talking about. This is worth every penny and then some. 5 stars, all day. Read more 854 people found this

  • Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

    Verified Purchase

Set name: Mighty White I've been using the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH for several weeks, and it's easy to see why this model has been recommended for so many years. **Setup & First Impressions** Setup took less than 10 minutes. The filters come pre-installed in protective packaging, so make sure to remove the plastic before turning it on. The purifier feels well-built without taking up much floor space. **Noise** One of my biggest concerns was noise since I use it in my living space. On the lowest setting it's quiet enough that I barely notice it's running. Medium is still comfortable for everyday use, while High moves a lot of air but is noticeably louder—which is expected when you need maximum filtration. **Air Quality Sensor & Auto Mode** The air quality indicator is surprisingly responsive. It increases the fan speed automatically when cooking odours or dust are detected, then returns to a quieter setting once the air clears. I rarely need to adjust it manually because Auto mode works so well. **Air Quality** I noticed less lingering cooking smells and the room feels fresher overall. Dust also seems to accumulate more slowly on nearby furniture. While I can't measure microscopic particles at home, it has made a noticeable difference in day-to-day air quality. **Maintenance** The washable pre-filter is easy to remove and clean, which should help extend the life of the HEPA and carbon filters. The filter replacement indicator is also a nice reminder instead of trying to remember the schedule yourself. **Pros** * Quiet on low speed * Excellent Auto mode with responsive air quality sensor * Compact footprint * Easy filter maintenance * Eco mode helps reduce power consumption when the air is clean **Cons** * High speed is fairly loud (although it moves a lot of air). * Replacement filters are an ongoing cost, so it's worth factoring that into long-term ownership. Overall, this has been a reliable air purifier that balances performance, ease of use, and noise very well. If you're looking for a purifier for a bedroom, office, or medium-sized living area, I'd have no hesitation recommending this model. Read more

Read more
