Lifesaver! I should've bought this years ago!!
TubeFace· Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2021Size: Large (28.5 x 22.5 in)Style: Recyclable Box No spoken audio I bought one of these for the outdoor cats I care for who have grown to love and trust me, but still want nothing to do with the indoors or being picked up. The pad arrived just in time for the cold snap. The cats absolutely loved it, one cat clung to it from the very moment I plugged it in to check that it was working. I had to dump him off to set it up in the shelter, and he was back on the instant it was down again. The box indicates you cannot use this heated pad with an extension cord, which meant it couldn't go in the greenhouse. So I build a platform on the patio using cinder blocks to raise the pad off the ground and keep it fully supported, left the shipping cardboard under the pad but on top of the cinder blocks, then surrounded that with upended cinderblocks to act as wall supports, and wrapped the outside with trash bags I split open flat. On top of the upended cinderblocks I placed a Maccourt Supertub, flipped over to act as a roof. It's as if they were made for each other. Then I layered more bags over the top , hanging off the edges to protect against driving rain and act as a drip edge, and weighted that all down with found bricks. As it began to snow, I noticed the wind was blowing snow into the entrances and the heat of the blanket was melting it. So I used cardboard and planters to block off the entrances and make a sort of S shape exit for the cats but to block the snow blowing in. Eventually the falling snow would mostly block 2 of their 3 exits, which helped retain their body heat, and the hide started to look almost like an igloo. Even at 16 degrees F, minus wind chill, it was warm and cozy in their hide. If you stuck your hand in and touched a spot of the heated matt, you hand was immediately warmed. Instead of huddling together in a mass together looking miserable, the cats were visibly happy and actually went out to play a number of times. I was worried the cats would wind up melting so much snow they'd electrocute themselves, even though the packaging specifically mentions the device is intended for a wet dog to be safe, I didn't know if I believed it or not. Thankfully, the promises were true, the pad really worked wonderfully! I liked this so well I bought another. -- TLDR; They're awesome just get it! Read more 41 people found this

In the whelping box, covered by a whelping box pad
Lisa Harper· Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2026Size: Medium (16.5 x 22.5 in)Style: Recyclable Box I use this in the whelping box covered by a whelping box pad. Eliminates the need for a heat lamp. Doesn't cook mama, and the pups can choose how much of their body to be on it

Excellent for feral cat houses and outdoor use, too!
Amazon customer· Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2025Size: Small (12.5 x 18.5 in)Style: Recyclable Box I have 4 of these & two have been around for years now & still going strong. I keep two inside the feral cats houses & two outside on top of the houses so that the cats can hang outside. It’s a real feel of 29 right now & one of the ferals is sitting outside on it by choice. My feral cats really love these & I can recommend these for people who care for outdoor cats. 2 people found this

So far, so good... Updated
Amazon customer· Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2012Size: Large (22.5 x 28.5 in)Style: Retail Box I bought two of the large pads for my dogs over a year ago (Oct 2010) and so far so good. I built two insulated dog houses from scratch and placed a pad in each one. They are protected from the weather and are not left out exposed to the sun. I think keeping these protected from the weather and sun will go a long way to making these pads last longer. They work great and keep my dogs nice and toasty. The instructions will tell you that they warm up slowly, so don't expect them to heat up to operating temperature right away. It's not a problem if the dog is wet since these pads are made of a tough plastic. I have tried thick plush pads before but the dogs only end up tearing them apart having fun doing so, they don't even try or can't chew on these since they are thin and lay flat on the floor. My dog houses have a flap door which helps seal in the heat, even when the temperature has dropped below 0, the dogs are still kept warm. I have not experienced the problems reported in other reviews and expect to get a few more years out of these. I will update this review if that changes. My only complaint is that elastic bands on the fleece covers that hold them in place on the pad, broke after a short while. I manually adjust the covers at night. I just ordered two new ones since the old ones are rather dirty now and I'm not going to bother to wash them. This is the reason why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5. Update: These pads began to fall apart after about 5 years, not bad but was hoping for longer life. Read more 16 people found this

Outdoor JRT Vermon Hunter
TheBowdens· Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2016Size: Large (22.5 x 28.5 in)Style: Retail Box Our JRT who absolutely refuses to be an indoor dog - lest she misses something has a 20 x 30 enclosure with 3 different dog houses she can use depending on the weather to keep her comfortable. She grows a super thick coat, and honestly as much as we pack the small house she doesn't require additional heat. We have very, very mild winters here. BUT we like to give her options, so we installed this heater in the large sized IGLOO she has that we also bed down with some red cedar (for fleas, and such), and wheat straw.** The cedar, and straw does not effect the heating pad. We're guessing not enough weight to warm up the pad. She does not use the pad often, but she does thoroughly enjoy it at times, so we are completely happy she has that **additional support as needed! And yes, she is probably the most spoiled little 18 pound hunting dog you have ever seen! Lol! BUT who cares! We love her dearly, and want her to always be comfortable even if she does demand being outside so she can keep an eye on all the animals in the barnyard! She is after all The Boss! Hahaha! As for the pad itself - it works great! **We did drill an 3 and a quarter hole through the dog house so we could run the cord out. Which was more than enough. **We also pushed the house right up to the fence because she chews up EVERYTHING we put in the kennel, & she is not supervised 24 hrs a day. **We strongly suggest you do the same if you can! Although the cord is wrapped in wire (spiral fashion like a pulled out slinky only smaller) it's still chewable by a determined pet. Especially bored, hyper, hunting, mischievous, or hard headed dogs. Our Lucy just loves to play with all toy's, and can't really discriminate between "chewy" toys, and rubbery fun cords! To her everything in the kennel is hers! Anywho back on track!** We love the pad, and absolutely DO recommend this pet warming pad! **Just like curling up with litter mates - it works on emanating heat that only warms from pressure, so electricity is saved when pet does not use. **Works just like the bird warmers we use for our parrots! ;) ***Oh and as a precaution - your pet Must have a way to get off of, and move away from the heater when they need to- to maybe cool down a bit, or take care of their needs. Hope our review is

Tried to answer questions I had before purchasing
Dwayne Fuller· Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2019Size: Large (22.5 x 28.5 in)Style: Retail Box Just got ours two days ago tested it in the house with a pillow per instructions put it in her dog house and she loves it! Seems to be high quality works great . I built the dog house to fit the pad used R15 foam board as insulation seems warm in her house. She spends a lot of time in her house now and can still do her job of protecting our house and yard. We live in the country and also have free range chickens witch she protects from predators. So I’m glad to make her life a little easier show her the love she shows us. This is rigid plastic not a lot of flex so keep that in mind. The cord is protected by a steel coil all the way to the plug. The fleece pad has elastic bands on corners like a fitted sheet. Our dog does chew things but I don’t think that’s going to be a problem due to the way this is made. She has chewed dog beds in the past but this is flat and she only seems to want to lay on it( sure it feels good in the cold weather. At this point I’d highly recommend this for your pet. She’s a red healer and sheds too much to come inside and also tears up thing in the house. I feel good about her outside now. She also barks and alerts when people come up that’s also her job so it’s a win win to have her out and happy! 27 people found this

Great idea....just not for our dog.
Terri Williams· Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2023Size: Large (22.5 x 28.5 in)Style: Retail Box We got this for our 50 lbs pit/lab mix. It gets cold here in the winter and she is an outdoor dog. Mind you, she has a dog house with lots of blankets and towels but we wanted to give her something more to keep her warm. We tried a heater that you mount on the inside of the dog house but she bumped her head on it and refused to go into the dog house for almost a month. So we ordered this 'platform' heater that she could lay on. Great idea. Just not for a dog who a) likes to chew and b) is kind of scared by 'noises' that are unfamiliar to her. (She was a 'rescue' so we don't know much about her past.) First, we laid it on the porch without plugging it in so she could get used to it. Well, she tried chewing/removing the fleece cover. Then she tried chewing the plastic platform itself. She would never step on it though. We think it is because of the noise and the rigidity of the platform. It makes noise (not loud) when pressure is applied to it. It does work though. We laid a pillow on it while plugged in and it did heat up. We are keeping it because it is past the 30 days and will probably give it to our daughter who has a cat with arthritis in his hips. He may not find the 'noises' so disturbing. 2 people found this
